Why Radishes are Hot

RadishesHave you ever bitten into a radish only to get a burst of spicy? Did you know that the chemical that makes a pepper hot is not the same compound that makes a radish hot?

A radish tastes spicy because of a compound called isothiocyanate. This same compound lends a spicy kick to wasabi and mustard. On the other hand, capsicum makes a pepper spicy!
